Angela Leany was brought up in Australia by Dutch-speaking parents, with Dutch traditions well kept. Now that Angela’s mother has passed away, she wishes that she could have asked her more questions about her Dutch heritage, the immigration days in 1956, as well as a few secret recipes such as kroketten and boterkoek. Angela was inspired to start her own Dutch store, The Dutch Pantry, with a great variety of products ranging from cheese to rookworst, kroketten, frikandellen, and many more. The Dutch Pantry also sells hot Dutch food on Thursdays to Sundays, while Saturday is poffertjes day.
Immigration luncheons are organised every 3 months, inviting Dutch “omas” and “opas” to share their stories of immigration and Dutch history. The Dutch Pantry also holds a Dutch food festival every three months, with dishes such as boerenkol, nasiballen, rookworst, and famous Dutch cakes like tompoucen and mocha tarts.
