Queensland Local Government Association (LGA) visiting Amsterdam Smart City

by Paul Budde

A delegation lead by LGA Queensland went on a smart city fact finding tour and also visited Amsterdam Smart City (ASC) where they had several meetings both with ASC  as well as with individual members including one of the two leading companies  of the project the energy company Aliander.

Coordinating support was provided in the Netherlands by Frans Anton Vermast, who recently represented ASC at a smart city event in Parramatta and in Australia by Paul Budde.

Several local councils in Queensland have combined their efforts in establishing smart city projects across their jurisdictions, a key project being the installation smart street lights in South East Queensland.

Amsterdam has a high profile among both  local councils and industry  in Australia; ASC recently featured in the ‘Five Disrupters Report’ published by Smart Grid Australia. In 2013 the then Minister for Communication Stephen Conroy also visited SCA , since that time several individuals have visited SCA now followed by this high level delegation from Queensland.
