Vopak was founded in 1616 in the Netherlands and its headquarters are still in Rotterdam. Since then, it has grown to be the largest independent tank storage company in the world, operating 79 terminals in 28 countries with a combined storage capacity of 33 million cbm. Vopak’s mission is to ensure safe, reliable and effective storage and handling of bulk liquids at key marine locations for our customers, most of who operate in the oil, chemicals and gas sector.

Vopak entered Australia in the early 1990s with the acquisition of shares in a chemicals storage terminal in Sydney. Over the following decades, this business expanded: a second terminal was built in Sydney to host oil products and a terminal was established in Darwin to service the Northern Territory. We have become an integral part of the Australian fuel landscape as major oil companies import Diesel, Gasoline and Jet Fuel into our terminals, where the product is stored and distributed to petrol stations, mines and the airport.

Vopak is actively involved in the Dutch community in Australia and sponsors Dutch school “De Kangoeroe” in Sydney.
